Shahid Afridi leaving LPL to be with his sick daughter

Shahid Afridi leaving LPL to be with his sick daughter. There has not been any good news for Galle Gladiators. Their captain, Shahid Afridi, who joined the squad late because of his 9-month old youngest daughter’s illness, is leaving the Lanka Premier League (LPL) mid-way.

“The same daughter is not well again and he will be leaving the hotel in Hambantota at around 7.00 pm for Colombo, where he will catch a flight for Karachi at 1.00 am”, one of the team sources, speaking exclusively over the telephone, said.

Afridi has hoped to join his team once the situation improves back home. However, sources in the team management said owing to the quarantine rules, he is most unlikely to return.

Afridi had taken to his official Twitter account to reveal that he will be heading back home to attend to a personal emergency and will rejoin the team once the issue gets addressed.

”Unfortunately, I have a personal emergency to attend to back home. I will return to join back my team at LPL immediately after the situation is handled. All the best.,” Shahid Afridi wrote.

That said, the reason behind the mercurial all-rounder’s departure has now been revealed.

The official Twitter handle of the Lanka Premier League has confirmed that Afridi has returned to Pakistan in order to attend to his ailing daughter, who is currently hospitalized.

“Do you know the reason for @SAfridiOfficial ‘s return to the country? His daughter has been admitted to hospital 🏥 We pray for speedy recovery 🙏”.

Afridi had been diagnosed with the virus earlier this year and recent tests showed that he has antibodies in his system to fight the deadly contagion.
