A migraine headache is a headache in which, a throbbing pain is experienced on only one side of the head. The triggers are different for different people. The triggers can be found by keeping a headache diary. In the headache diary, the things eaten and done as well as the symptoms felt should be recorded. The diary can also help a doctor in determining the effectiveness of treatment. When the triggers are found, they simply have to be avoided in order to prevent a migraine attack.

Secondly, learn to recognize early warning signs of a migraine attack. Many attacks are triggered by certain symptoms. These might include things like mood changes, fatigue, restlessness and weakness in arm and leg. Relaxing and avoiding triggers when such symptoms are experienced can help in preventing the headache or lessen its severity.

Thirdly, watch what you eat. Certain foods commonly trigger migraines and should be avoided. These include foods containing caffeine and preservatives. In addition to this, a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables should be taken. Also, meals should never be skipped since a hungry stomach is most likely to trigger a migraine attack.

Another way to prevent migraines is to keep a regular sleep schedule. Sleep deprivation can cause migraines and so getting appropriate sleep is necessary for preventing headaches. Apart from appropriate amount of sleep, regular sleep schedule is necessary. Thus, a specific time for going to sleep and waking up should be maintained.

Finally, migraines can be prevented through regular exercise. Exercise helps in reducing the frequency of migraine headaches as it enhances the mood and reduces stress. However, strenuous exercise should be avoided.
